Preventing Water / Wastewater Emergencies
Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) is a communication link designed to monitor water and wastewater sites throughout the city.
This process is accomplished by using Remote Telemetry Units (RTUs) to relay information every 60 seconds to the Master Telemetry Unit (MTU) located at a centralized location. This instant overview provides the necessary time needed for changes based on the demand of the city each and every day.
This system provides the necessary information needed to help prevent emergency situations and/or equipment damage. Monitoring is done for:
- High and low water storage levels
- Power and communication failures
- Pump failure conditions
- Wastewater lift station levels
How the System Works
A computerized paging program is activated once an alarm condition exists allowing for the proper notification based on the site affected.
“In the event of an after-hour water or wastewater emergency, please notify police dispatch at (830) 257-8181.”
